Winter 2004
FOUR TRUTHS FOR OPTIMAL LIVING IN 2004
1. Extreme low-carb diets result in protein lost, as
well as urinary loss of vital ions such as potassium. Since protein tissue contains mostly water, dieters
appear to lose weight quickly. When carbs are increased the "weight lost," is regained.
2. Quick Fad weight lost programs do not work. Any
quick weight loss is not usually permanent. Losing minerals and lean muscle mass is not healthy.
It slows your metabolism down! Only about 5% of people who follow fad diets actually lose weight
and remain close to that weight.
3. Adipose (fat) cells can be somewhat determined at infancy.
Overfeeding can increase adipose cells. When obesity develops in infancy or childhood more adipose can be formed. This is called
hyperplasia. When obesity occurs in adulthood, a number of cells are present but can be increased. This enlargement of
fat cells is called hypertrophy. We need to be more aware of this crucial nutritional factor. Growing adipose or feeding adipose cells to
increase in size, will have a long-standing effect on weight loss and a healthy life.
4. The real secret to an optimal body weight is simple, but
requires commitment and discipline. Here it is:
Calories in vs. Activity Out!
Eat 80% from the plant kingdom and 20% from the animal kingdom
for a long life.
Eat to live not live to eat!
What nourishes you?
