INFLAMMATION AND YOUR PRETTY FACE We have all felt the defensive response of inflammation. When we mention inflammation most think of injury, such as pain, heat, swelling, and even lost of function of a particular tissue area. But I want you to expand your definition of this word. More and more research has experts looking at an "Inflammation Syndrome." This can occur in various areas in your body and you may be unaware of this happening. But what about your face. That image you can't help but peer into each day! Some people call your face the ultimate reflector. What does your reflection tell others? Many years ago, I read a book called, "Your Face Doesn't Lie", and it's true. We can't escape the signs of inadequate sleep, lack of fiber, chronic sugar intake, and just unhealthily lifestyle. Thus, leading to inflammation and toxicity, free radical damage just to mention a few chemical reactions. This inflammation effect can even cause wrinkles, and damage to your pretty face. In Nicholas Perricone's, M. D. book, "The Wrinkle Cure", he sites that the production of arachidonic acid a chemical activating the inflammation response, can be linked to damaging cells of the skin. Certain supplements can reduce the amount of arachidonic acid in the body, thus limiting and maybe disarming the war of skin damage. These antioxidants include: Alpha lipoic acid, and vitamin C, two simple inexpensive vitamins that can be taken every day. Alpha lipoic acid the antioxidant super hero can prevent the process of glycation. This process manifests itself when a protein and sugar are joined, this union, prevents molecules from sliding freely over one another, causing sagging and inflexible skin. Do you get the picture? Perricone states that taking alpha lipoic acid everyday, will help control, "accelerated aging of collagen by protecting it from sugar's toxic effects." In regards to the humble Vitamin C, this vitamin "stimulates the growth of fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and elasticity in human skin." So, maybe we can say: "Alpha Lipoic Acid and Vitamin C , a day can take the wrinkles away!
