SAW PALMETTO THE NATURAL TREATMENT
FOR THE PROSTATE HEALTH About 60% of men aged 40 to 59 experience benign prostatic hyperplasia, known as BPH, sometimes called benign prostatic hypertrophy. Translated to enlarged prostate gland. BPH symptoms are: reflect blockage of bladder, outlet, frequency and urgency of urination, being waken to empty bladder, reduction of force and caliber of urine. If left without proper treatment could cause uremia (blood in the urine). PLEASE NOTE: BPH CAN ONLY BE DIAGNOSED BY A PHYSICIAN. IF YOU HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS CONDITION, SEE A PHYSICIAN. For more information see: Hinman F: Benign
Prostatic Hyperplasia. Spring-Verlag, New York, 1983. SAW PALMETTO Saw Palmetto grows six to ten feet high. Their
berries vary in color from red- brown to black. American
Indians ate their berries and soon naturopathic doctors used them
in health mixtures. These saw palmetto mixtures were used for genito-urinary
disorders in men to support better testicle function, and in women to
support mammary gland disorders. Some herb experts would even classified this
humble berry as an aphrodisiac (Pizzorno Je and Murray: A Textbook of Natural
Medicine. JBC Publications, Seattle, WA, 1989, Chapter V:Serenoa Repens). As
research unfolded these berries contained about 63% free fatty acids
along with carotenes, lipase, tannins, and sugars. The
soluble fat compound are thought to be the active pharmacological agent.
The optimal daily dosage for this extract is about 320 mg a
day (160 mg twice a day). But this extract must have 85-95% fatty
acids and sterols (Murray Michael, N. D. The Saw Palmetto Story,
pp.6-10). For listing of clinical studies, refer to this book,
pages 8-9. BPH is thought to be caused by testosterone
buildup, and studies support that serenoa repens berries (saw
palmetto), prevents conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone,
a potent compound. This compound is the catalyst to reap
multiplication of cells leading to prostate enlargement (Sultan, C,
Terraza A, Devillier C, et al: Inhibition of androgen metabolism
and binding by a lipo-sterolic extract of "Serenoa repens B"
in human foreskin fibroblast. J Steroid Biochem 20:515-9,
1984). TOXICITY NO SIGNIFICANT SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN
CLINICAL STUDIES. Toxicity studies in animals have produced
no side effects. Action Labs: Super
